I just made a note to check out AntiExploit (documentation) sometime in the not so near future. Might actually be useful if it can detect and stop exploits that aren’t publicly known. Not exactly a new concept but might actually be very good at stopping script kiddies. Obviously if the attacker takes the time to test the exploit against AntiExploit in a box she (legally) owns before using it to 0wn someone else’s box, she can tweak the exploit to bypass AntiExploit. Nothing new here.
Escaping the Hamster Wheel of Pain – read this, it’s worth it. Metrics in computer security are now a hot subject but at this rate I don’t think we’ll get good, standard, widely used metrics before the end of the decade. Related post.

Ups, almost forgot to mention The Cross-site Scripting Virus.

My PC’s PSU daid on me so I’ve been without my PC for a while – hopefully it will be up and runing by next week (with a temporary replacement PSU). Having to use my 5 year old IBM R30 laptop has been a pain. I havn’t bothered with launching the feed reader (gush).
On top of that, it hasn’t been easy to access my blog or any other web page at this site since Ubuntu 5.10 was realesed.
Also the computer which will become chefax.fe.up.pt (once fully configured) arrived Thursday or something. Considering the ammount of services it will need to run (such as LDAP), the fact that I will be out for the first 3 days of this coming week and the fact I’m busy with stuff, it will probably only be up by the end of the month – but it will be worth the wait cuz stuff configured by me kick ass!
Next week I’m going to spend a couple of days in Caldas do Geres or something. I’ll take a few pictures – unless I forget to…

I just wanted to express my love for this two simple and incredibly useful commands: grep and sed.

GODDAMIT!!!!
THERE IS SOME HIGHER POWER STOPPING ME FROM MAKING THIS POST. FIRST IT’S THE DAMN BACK BUTTON ON THE MOUSE THAN IT’S SOME WEIRD BACK BUTTON ON THE GODDAMN LAPTOP KEYBOARD. ARGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Sigh, moving on… A few days ago I mentioned changes to this blog, here’s what I’ve done so far:
* The sidebar from the old theme has been ported to this new one;
* Added a Contact page;
* DokuWiki – I’m already using it. Check it out here.
Coming Soon (soon as in sometime before the end of the universe):
* New About page;
* Photos section;
* Technorati tags;
* Wiki (PhpWiki);
* Add links and actually figure out how to integrate stuff.
Side Note: Main page XHTML is now invalid – good job!
Side Note 2: Spread Firefox is down.

CME (Common Malware Enumeration) provides single, common identifiers to new virus threats to reduce public confusions during malware outbreaks. CME is not an attempt to solve the challenges involved with naming schemes for viruses and other forms of malware, but instead aims to facilitate the adoption of a shared, neutral indexing capability for malware.
Through CME’s neutral, shared identification method, the CME initiative seeks to:
* Reduce the public’s confusion in referencing threats during malware incidents.
* Enhance communication between anti-virus vendors.
* Improve communication and information sharing between anti-virus vendors and the rest of the information security community.

Went home to eat properly and sleep yesterday. Slept for 11 hours… until Relax woke me up with a phonecall. It was time for me to come back so he could go home for a while.
It’s Saturday, Day Three of the GLP. There’s a lot more people here now – you’ll probably notice the difference just by looking at the pretty pictures. I already took a few pictures of day three but I haven’t uploaded them.
